Do you agree or disagree with the idea of using punctuation in the text you send?
I try to always send my texts with punctuation if I am writing a long text. However, if I am writing something short I will usually skip punctuation and simply write a new text back to back. Based on the Ted video that we watched I have come to a new understanding of our new form of communication through text and I now agree with the thought that texting is written speech and we should not be expected to use correct punctuation because we don't use punctuation when we speak. Punctuation has now been substituted with emojis. It is not that we have omitted punctuation but that it has evolved into a form of picture punctuation.

Does texting make us bad writers?
I find myself being the only one in my group of family and friends that still insists on spelling out the exact word when texting, (if I am using letters) but I have increasingly been enjoying using emoticons and random stickers to communicate with my less formal contacts. This inspires me to ask myself and the world, "Does texting make us bad writers?" For me personally the answer is no, but this is simply because I enjoy words and communicating in written form in general. I love it when it is that special occasion and I get the chance to write a card for someone's birthday . I simply enjoy writing, so when I text it is no different than when I am writing a thank you card or a happy congratulatory letter. I believe he or she who is a bad writer will become a worse writer when texting, not because of the phone action, but simply because it is faster and easier to abbreviate or omit using words all together, and simply use emoticons. . Emoticons are so fun and easy to use that I know I can have day long conversations using only emoticons and no actual words. We also have to take into consideration that we have an automatic keyboard that guesses our next word before we even type it, so in this respect it would actually help you become a better writer as it guesses your next words using correct spelling. Good writer or bad writer? You are what you are and it is up to you to either use technology to better yourself or to become comfortable and work less, even if it is just a simple text.
After interacting with some of my classmates on the subject and watching a video on it as well I have come to a new conclusion. My new understanding of it is that texting is not making us bad writers. It is an evolution of language that is more complex than we may think. Texting has acquired new meaning, and it is an evolution of our language because it is inventing new words for faster communication and giving existing words new meaning. Texting is a way of writing as you speak and with the convenience of texting it has allowed us to communicate in a new way, that although it is still in written form it is considered much less formal and allows for new ways of using language and already existing words besides creating its own. The advancement of technology has allowed us to do this because we can use our phones as we would use our mouths during speech.
